Blog mention & a new kitten?!

I was mentioned in this gorgeous blog today!  The site is http://www.indieicing.com/, and they did such a great job with the post!  It is all about getting ready for next spring!  I've never planted bulbs, but I've always loved tulips and irises.  They have convinced me to try to plant some bulbs this fall... I'll keep you posted as to how they come out in the spring :)

OK... the kitten.

My husband was taking the kids to school today and he noticed a very small kitten right on the white line in the road.  He was very worried that it would get hit, so he pulled over.  We have been talking about getting a cat for outside around the house to live in the studio.  We are not really cat people... I love cats as long as I don't have to clean up after them.  Well, he saw that the kitten was in very rough shape and thought it would be better if it just found a place to go peacefully... he's got a huge heart, but is a practical man.  So he was trying to usher the kitten into the ditch (did I mention he was in his jammies) and was going to get back into the car.  The girls were crying... they didn't want to leave the kitten.  As he went to get into the car someone else pulled up behind him and insisted that he take the kitten into the vets.  Why didn't the man who stopped take the kitten?  Because he had a rental car and couldn't get it dirty.  So, my husband who was already feeling guilty got the kitten, put it in a small wastebasket we had in the car and put our road atlas over the top to keep the kitten in.  He says the kitten hadn't groomed itself in a while and was covered in mucus.  He took the kids to school.  He then went to a nearby town to a vets office to have the kitten seen.  He was in his jammies... thereby no wallet, or cellphone.  The vet told him that there was nothing that they could do because the kitten was not ours & to take it to the local humane society.  So, my husband is about 30 minutes late from time I thought he would be home.  When he walked in with a meowing box I didn't ask questions.  He was still in his pajamas, so he showered and we took the kitten to the humane society.  At this point we were just hoping to get the kitten treated so we could bring it back home and make it comfortable.  It didn't take much convincing that this cat was destined to be ours.  When we got to the humane society they told us that they had to keep the kitten for treatment, and to see if thier owner would claim it... for seven days!  I called this afternoon and they couldn't tell me how the kitten was doing because it hadn't been seen yet.  It couldn't be too bad if they could wait until this afternoon to have it seen, right?  I'm calling back tomorrow, probably going there and taking some donationed supplies with me.  They have a wonderful facility & didn't ask a thing from us and were very nice.  I have a feeling it is going to be a very long 7 days (I hope).  It will give up plenty of time to think up a name for this little fighter... any suggestions?  I'm not even sure if it's a boy kitty or a girl kitty :)

  2. Congrats on the kitten! :) Sounds like quite the adventure. I think fate is trying to tell you something here - you're destined to add him or her to your family.

Names... hmm... that's a tough one. I used to work at a humane society (during college the first time around) and named animals all the time... however, now it's tough for some reason. I vote to let the girls decide. :)
